This Code of Conduct applies to all Club representatives who act as the public face of the Club and who carry out tasks on behalf of the Club. The Committee and other volunters are required to sign a sheet to say that they have read, understood and will comply with this policy, immediately after the AGM or as soon after taking up a volunteer role as possible.
There is an expectation that information gained whilst volunteering for the Club is kept confidential, unless required to be disclosed for a particular reason, ie by the ASA.
Representatives shall:
- Be up to date with Child Protection guidelines and adhere to them when dealing with swimmers
- Abide by the ASA Code of Ethics at the given time
- Have the interests of the swimmer as a primary concern in all activities
- Treat all swimmers with equity and respect all abilities, regardless of race, colour, language, religion, birth or social status
- Aim to develop swimmers in their abilities, skills and qualities, and set targets that are challenging but attainable
- Behave in a manner that is a positive example in attitude and actions
- Encourage swimmers to treat others with respect
- Present themselves in a professional manner and appearance
- Establish, develop and maintain a positive relationship with swimmers as individuals and as a team
- Strive to maintain and project the positive image of the individual representative, the Club and the sport as a whole
- Maintain an open mind and listen to feedback, whether positive or negative and take prompt appropriate action to rectify where needed
- Give credit where credit is due
- Seek and freely offer opportunities for swimmers to develop in other water based disciplines
- Treat all confidential information as confidential, except in exceptional circumstances regarding health and safety, medical requirements, disciplinary action or in accordance with ASA Child Protection procedures and guidelines
- Use tact and discretion at all times
- Raise issues with the Head Teacher and/or Committee where it is appropriate to do so, or at the request of a Member or swimmer, and deal with these in a prompt manner, giving feedback of action taken where appropriate
- Undertake to develop themselves by Continual Professional Development, and freely pass this information to other representatives and Clubs
- Not drink alcohol or smoke either before or during teaching or coaching sessions or competitions
