Our own relay rules:
Bay relay -
-
This will take place as the first race after the warm up in the Main Pool
-
There will be a boys relay event and a girls relay event
-
Each Bay can enter one boys team and one girls team
-
Bay Captains will select the team, drawing swimmers from these age groups:
-
The first 50m is swum by 1 or 2 swimmers aged 10 or under. This can be swum as 2 swimmers over 25m each, or 1 swimmer doing 50m
-
The second 50m is by 1 swimmer aged between 11/12
-
The third 50m is by 1 swimmer aged 13/14
-
The last 50m is by 1 swimmer aged 15+
-
(reserves should also be picked by the Captain)
-
The race will be swum as freestyle i.e. any stroke provided that it is swum within the ASA rules of that stroke and must be the same stroke throughout
-
Captains must make sure that their swimmers are able to take part competently and safely. Check with the teacher if necessary!
-
You may swim up an age group but not down, for instance, if you do not have an 13 year old, you can swim a 12 year old for that leg, but you cannot swim a 13 year old in place of a 12 year old
-
Each swimmer may only do their own leg, and may not swim twice
-
Teams taking flyers (the outgoing swimmer leaving the block before the ingoing swimmer has touched the wall), putting swimmers in the wrong leg, using swimmers twice, having an incomplete team, having more than 2 swimmers in the lane at any one time, etc will be disqualified
-
Captains are responsible for making sure that their team swimmers and the parents/carers of their team swimmers are aware that their child has been chosen for the relay. Remember that not all swimmers choose to enter the gala as an individual
-
The race is swum as heat declared winner, i.e. the fastest finishing team overall, within the rules, win the trophy, the White Plate

Lifesaving relay:
-
ONLY teams of swimmers who have passed their ASA Personal Survival 2 award may enter (so some 8.15 swimmers will qualify for this)
-
There will be a boys relay and a girls relay. We'll try to figure out a way of accepting mixed entries if there is a demand!
-
Swimmers from different Bays may form a team and the points will be split evenly across the two Bays
-
The race is swum by a team of 2 swimmers – one is the ‘rescuer’, the other is the ‘casualty’
-
The casualty is placed in the water at the shallow end of the pool with one hand on the bar
-
The rescuer starts on poolside at the deep end, with a rescue aid (probably a noodle)
-
On the go signal, the rescuer enters the water with a safe entry and swims head up front crawl, with the aid, to the casualty
-
The rescuer must touch the casualty with the aid before the casualty can let go of the bar
-
The rescuer may put their feet down for long enough to touch the casualty and for the casualty to get hold of the aid.
-
The rescuer can give themselves a push off from the floor but may not walk
-
The rescuer will tow the casualty, WITHOUT TOUCHING THEM, to the deep end
-
The casualty must remain immobile & make the rescuer do the work – any help will result in disqualification!
-
Once at the deep end, the rescuer should climb out without using the steps
-
Once on poolside, the rescuer shall secure the casualty (who is still in the water), at the poolside, at the deep end, with their hands on top of the casualty's hands
-
The clock stops when the team is in this position
-
The race is swum as heat declared winner, i.e. the fastest team overall, within the rules, win the event and the trophy
-
There is a trophy for the overall winner and a medal for all participants
